Softball playoffs: No top four seeds for area teams as Charter Oak, Los Altos and San Dimas earn first-round home games

It’s been a funny season for the area softball teams in 2014.
The best team — Glendora — in the area during the pre-league tournament season didn’t make the playoffs and now no Valley team received a top four seed when the CIF-Southern Section released divisional playoff pairings
The area’s hotest teams — Charter Oak, Los Altos and San Dimas have their work cut out for them.
Charter Oak, which finished second to Chino Hills in the Sierra League hosts Capistrano Valley in a Division 2 first-round game on Tuesday. But the Chargers could meet top seed Mission Viejo in the quarterfinals. Los Altos, which stormed its way to a share of the Hacienda League title, hosts the winner of Monday’s wild-card game between South Hills and Tesoro, on Tuesday, also in Division 2, while San Dimas, which won another Valle Vista League title, hosts the Brentwood-Morro Bay in Division 5 on Tuesday.
Nine area teams will play wild-card games on Monday, with the first and second round scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday respectively. The finals are slated for May 30-31 at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine.
