Damien’s Grant Hockin passes on UCLA, agrees to sign with Cleveland Indians for $1.1 million

MLB TRADE RUMORS: The Indians have reached an agreement with second-round pick Grant Hockin on an above-slot $1.1MM bonus, according to MLB Daily Dish’s Chris Cotillo (on Twitter). The 61st overall selection in the draft had been assigned a value of $928.7K, according to Baseball America.

Opinions on the 6’3″, 195-pound Hockin varied, as ESPN’s Keith Law ranked him 49th among draft prospects, while MLB.com’s Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo ranked Hockin 91st and Baseball America ranked him 109th in the draft. Law feels that Hockin, a client of MVP Sports Group, flashes four above-average pitches with a clean arm slot. BA feels that only three of his pitches have above-average potential, also noting that he doesn’t have a wipeout offering.

Grant will do well. He is a fine young man and is very bright. he should be able to handle the ups and downs of Pro Ball well. Best of luck to him!

    Great job Grant
A bit of advise from someone who has no business giving you advise. Put as much away as possible of the signing bonus. Try to make ends meet on the salary. Stay Humble

Great for grant, but honestly with how strong college baseball has become and the guys I’ve been friends with in college and in the minors. It is better to go to college for three years and develop, especially when it’s against top flight competition. Good luck kid.
