WILDCATS RALLY: Monrovia came all the way back to knock off defending CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley Division champion San Dimas 24-23 in overtime, rallying from a 17-0 deficit to pull it out in the season opener for both schools on Friday at San Dimas.
San Dimas’ Bobby Rios scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Saints a 23-17 lead in overtime, but a blocked extra point gave the Wildcats an opportunity to win it with their possession.

Eric Sondehimer is making us look like homers, he guaranteed at Santa Margarita victory over Amat.

    • Valley Athletics

sondheimer didn’t put amat players on any of his top position player list . Did not rank amat in his top 25 .

      • AMAT 73

        VA,
Nothing new , he never does and most likely never will .

        • GP AKA Green Machine

BA has been ranked in the top 25 the past 2-3 years. He believes in Vaughn and Sidney, but not the entire team. He is looking at the QB Situation. No one knows who this Garcia Kid is….I am not saying he is not a player, Im just thinking the LA times loves star power.

          • General Turgidson

You might not say it… but I will.
            He stunk it up.

        • 1st and goal

After eric gets out of the shower he rubs preparation H all over himself.

        • no-step

That’s because he knows something you don’t!

        • General Turgidson

3 interceptions. Poor special teams. Penalties all over the field. Most “talented team in 10 years….”
Still the same outcome. Maybe they squeak into the playoffs and get knocked out by the number 1 seed, maybe they don’t.
If Amat wants to get serious about winning, they will spend the 200K to get Harry Welch over to little Mexic- umm, I’m sorry, I mean over to La Puente, to do the same thing for them that he did for SM. Haggerty has had his shot… and he is more than a little bit south of the bulls-eye.
But as long as dunces such as yourself continue to have blind hope and accept the mediocre outcomes at the end of every season for the past 19 years, well…. you will keep sending your kids and grandkids there, and Amat will still be making their money.
Why win when you don’t have to?
          -___-

          • AMAT 73

            Gen Turd,
You were doing fine until your little Mexico comment , and why stop at Mexic , to show you are not a complete idiot only 5/6ths of one . Just keep it to knocking our team, coach , and fans like me and we will be fine and can round and round . If you want to show your racist side please find another forum , this one’s for football

    • GP AKA Green Machine

I agree…I think SM will get after Garcia. I don’t think it will be a blowout, I just think that BA has not won in OC in the last 5 years. AT Keifer, you take Bishop. At SM you take SM, then you take the toll road home I-241N to 71N to the 10 West…you know the exits after that Fred.

      • Valley Athletics

        It’s at saddleback .

        • GP AKA Green Machine

you still can take to 241…it’s a toll road.

          • Valley Athletics

Yeah , save about 20 minutes if you don’t mind paying a total of 3 tolls .

  • FredJ

    Whatcha think of this

    • Valley Athletics

Saw kaiser at Bonita tournament . Did not see how they can be ranked from what I saw . Did not see any athletes on the team . Everybody else looks legit .

    • GP AKA Green Machine

Fred, I slightly agree. Monrovia should be # 7. South Hills not better

      1. Charter Oak
      2. Glendora
      3.Colony
      4.Los Altos
      5. Daimond Bar
      6.Kaiser
      7. Monrovia
      8. South Hills
      9.Bonita
      10. Dranch

  • observantcat

Fred you don’t make sense, Try Monrovia is replacing 2 impact players with 10 impact players, These kids will prove to you that they meet the criteria of some of the best in the SGV this season. Potts and Scobie are long gone to Fresno State while you have others who will come in and make a sudden impact on how this years team will perform.

    • FredJ

Love you Obervant, but I’ve heard your sad story before, try beating San Dimas first, which I don’t think will happen.

      • GP AKA Green Machine

Why is our Story Sad…you keep forgetting we are 2-1 in the last 3 meetings and both wins were on the road. There is no home field in this matchup.

      • observantcat

Most of my stories haven’t really been that sad, In the past 5-6 years Monrovia has more than proven itself especially in terms of reloading. Every year we hear how someone leaves and no one will ever step up to the plate thats the real sad story. Monrovia has exceptional athletes this year and each and every one of them have the opportunity to push their game up a notch or two. Ps… Fred when you see Obervant tell him that Observantcat said Hi.

      • MonroVian

        Happened

    • Too funny

That’s like saying your going to replace your 2 Ferrari’s with 10 Ford Fiesta’s. LOL

      • observantcat

        More like 10 Tesla’s for 2 Porshe Panamera’s

      • MonroVian

More like some 2017, 2018 Ferrari’s. Vroom vrooooooom!

  • AMAT 73

Good luck to all the teams of the SGV for well played and injury free games . To The Men in Blue , first of many tough games , give it your all and leave nothing in the tank . AMAT WILL SHINE !!!!!

    • statsguy

Christmas comes early this year, how many spots will BA drop after tonight on the state/national calpreps rankings, 50? 100? maybe more

  • The Fan

San Dimas Monrovia. Wow! Guess San Dimas wins CIF again. Seems like the looser of pre season SD MoTown game wins CIF

  • Lancer in HB

Aside from the complete lack of emotion and discipline I was stunned to see how “unready” this team tonight! Mental mental mental… I need to type that 24 more times for the 27 penalties.I love my Lancers but that display was not Amat football tonight with a couple of players acting like total primadonnas it was just plain embarrassing… Up to you boys.. Play football the way it’s meant to be played or move to the side of the road and allow those who do to pass you on by!!!

    • John

What happen to Camargo last night? Not only did he not run the ball very effective he did not play any defense at all. He needs to play on the defense side more and used occasionally on offense. He would be unstoppable as a TE. Especially, with Arconado, Vaughn’s and Sidney as WR.

  • Spartan Pops

What happened to AMAT tonight, all that talent and cant beat an average team??? Haggerty better get a hold of his superstars and take them down a notch, or its going to be long season. I seen glimpses of the showboating at the passing tournaments earlier this year.

    • General Turgidson

The greatest predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
I am stunned that people are still stunned when a loser continually loses.
Did Haggerty have some kind of spiritual revelation in the off season? Did he spend time in the mountains with Tibetan monks? Did the heavens part and Mother Mary herself bestow some football blessing on him?
He can’t win at the Pac-5 level. Has not. Will not.
      That’s how I got ’em.

      • jcaz

GT, im actually in agreement with you both here and in your post down below. Amat’s teams over the Haggerty years have shown both brilliance as well as incredible disappointment. But unfortunately, at the end of the day, getting bounced is all that happens right ? Honestly though, I cant believe how sloppy that game was played last nigh. This was absolutely the worst opening day game this team has played in, in well over 7 years, and yes GT, it all comes down to coaching. This Amat team was often clueless out there. BTW, you cant blame this on the kids. It has to do with preparation, and to be brutally honest wit you, they were defiantly not prepared last night. Often, they didnt seem to be very comfortable with this offense. So may mistakes made. The funny thing here is that Amat could have won that game by at lest two touchdowns (if it we’rent for all those turnovers), and at the same time one could argue, that Amat could have lost this game by those same two scores . In fact, if it were not for those two amazing kick off returns, the faithful would have been looking at a total blow out because SM offense just seemed to pick up steam towards the end of that game. One more thing. Last nights game was horribly coached. Sure, the ref’s totally blew that pass interference call against Vaughns (sp) at the end, but the fact is that Amat got more than enough bad calls their way that they really couldn’t complain. There were at least two false starts (again coaching) that were not called and even the last touchdown on that fourth down situation was questionable, because I wasn’t so sure he hung on to the ball. Anyways, you live you learn, and if there’s a bright spot to all of this, then maybe “time” is a good thing because the boy’s have a few more games before league to fine tune their game.

    • no-step

I agree with you on that “showboating” thing. I saw it too. Amat is fast becoming a big fish in a little pond and living on past laurels.

    • Hello!!!

SMC is much better then an average team. They may no longer be the best team in the Trinity, but they are still a very talented South Orange County team.

Somehow, I don’t really think your a “Spartan Pop” Based on your recent infatuation with a certain kid from Rosemead and your ire directed at Haggerty, I would suspect your more like a Panther Pops.

    • coachbilly

Here we go! Spartans popping off and they haven’t won crap in years. Didn’t you clowns run to CIF so you wouldn’t have to face tough comp?
And don’t give me the travel reason.
Your sports programs FAIL in baseball and football. Look at your talent and NO rings!
Heck DR. H had to bring in Amat guys to hopefully turn the crap around.
      Enough said

  • Valley Athletics

Looks like Amat is going to have to correct some things . Got home from work and read all the post and talked to some people about Game . Going to be a tough week of practice for the kids . Learn from your mistakes and get ready for next game .

    • no-step

They have to do More than that! They were only able to stay close because of 2 long kick off returns. Without that it was a blowout.

      • Valley Athletics

Yeah from what I heard they need to fix a lot and change some personnel . But also heard they had some very good drives stall because of penaltys and a fumble at the 10 . There is also footage of Vaughn’s being pulled on an on an interception from Garcia on a drive that could of put them up . Ball would of been right to him . Only time will tell . Team is very young . They could turn it around or go 0-10 .

  • reality

I was not at the Amat game but was at another that could barely be called a game because of the flags. The ball moved up and down the field not because of a nice play but because of penalties. I omit the teams names in hopes they can clean it up or is was an aberration. It was embarrassing and made both HC’s look like complete dolts unable to control their respective players. I had to leave early. The outcome made no difference. they both were total losers. One thing they did not factor in is the cracking down by the refs on dirty play(below the knee blocking) late hits, roughing, pass interference, trash talk, personal fouls and sideline conduct. And I agree, this needs to be addressed forcefully by the refs even if it means games are forfeited or players and coaches tossed. You can say football is a rough game equating it to war. But in war it is the disciplined unit that prevails at times against the superior force or a horde of screaming maniacs. Off sides and procedure penalties are to be expected but insane uncontrolled play that I have heard and seen and read about throughout L.A. County tonite must STOP. It will kill football at the high school level.

    • General Turgidson

So you want to enforce your standard of “conduct” on everyone else simply because you don’t like how certain players and coaches act? Who made you the arbiter of character? Who is to say it isn’t your standard of conduct that is wrong?

I for one, feel that this game is rough, violent, and is in essence, a controlled street fight. Why do we expect these kids to run around trying to kill and maim each other (and make no mistake, aggressiveness is key to a football team’s success) for 48 minutes – and somehow be nice to each other in between plays??? If a head coach loses too often he will lose his job and possible have to relocate his family and change careers. This IS war!
You are the liberal fascist DOLT who for some reason feels the incessant need to control other people’s lives. I say let’s enforce some minimal conduct rules and allow different cultures, philosophies, and team systems to battle it out on the ultimate proving ground… the GRIDIRON. If discipline is really that valuable (and indeed I believe it is) then it will win out. We need not get all Soviet on people and enforce that they be “good sports.”
Quit being a spineless punk. Learn to appreciate the aggression and the controlled violence. GIVE UP THE DESIRE TO CONTROL OTHERS.
This aint soccer or curling you DOLT….
      THIS IS FOOTBALL.
      That’s how I got ’em.
      General Turgidson

      • reality

Save your rant for the CIF. They have told the refs to be more aware of the roughing and personal foul penalties. Any hard hit that can be construed as flagrant or leading with the helmet will be flagged.I can’t control anything from the bleachers, but it is obvious that the game is changing at all levels and it starts by refs making more calls. The lettum play era is over for now.If you get your jollies by watching kids play war than may I suggest you get a rockem sockem boxing game. That way you can control at least one guy eh Captain Crunch?

      • Hello!!!

The object of the game is to move the ball over your opponents goal line and out score your opponent, not who can make the dirtiest hit. Play the game hard and clean and hopefully when the gun sounds at the end of the game everyone is still healthy.

    • Hello!!!

I thought all those Snoop kids transferred out of Diamond Bar? LOL

  • LA Dad

LA Looked good tonight on defense, except for the 1 broken play for a TD. Offense was on/off but certainly had problems in the Red Zone. I am not sure how good Santa Monica is supposed to be so San Dimas will be a better test next week.

    • Conq’76

LA Dad, for what its worth, SM was ranked number one in their papers pre-season rankings of their readership area…

      • Hello!!!

SM is a good win for LA. SM has had some good teams in recent years while playing in, what I think was, D4.

    • Wilson 95

San Dimas will be a good test for La. Although it has potential to be bad now that the scouting report is out on LA put everybody in the box and stop the run. Force silva to pass.

  • Aaron

I don’t know when Nogales will right the ship…but it’s not that DR was that good last night. Nogales is that bad, doesn’t help when you can’t find a coach until summer (had two years to find one!).

  • no-step

Reality check for Amat…SM isn’t all that good. Next week, those Texas boys are going to hand you your jockstrap!

    • Hello!!!

I’m not a big Amat fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I certainly respect their confidence to put together the type of brutal schedule that they have. If Amat can put 6 W’s up on that schedule this year I for one will be highly impressed. Regardless of their final record I believe they will still be the best team in our area, unless of course they lose to Chino Hills.

  • Spartan Pops

I will say again as I did a week ago, Haggerty made a big mistake letting Nava go, if Garcia continues to play like this Haggerty has no true 2nd QB. And he knows it, should have picked good play over politics.

    • Valley Athletics

haggerty did not let Nava go . nava took easy road out and did not stay to compete . Eventually he will have to learn to compete . Nava didn’t even win his first game in a lower division . So what would he do with ucla commit rick wade in his face all game . It’s Garcias first game and can’t be judged by one performance .

    • Hello!!!

In case you didn’t read the paper on Friday morning. Nava threw a number of picks vs Northview and if Northview’s defenders had better hands it would have been 5 picks for the evening. Imagine what the number would have been vs a Trinity League school like SMC.

  • Conq’76

LA gets to my mind a C- on the evening. Defense, A, stifling, in the Vikings backfield as often as their QB was. SM executed one play where their back went 75 yards after fighting off a few LA missed tackles. Beyond that, LA D redefined domination.
Offense C-. Any pass play beyond a quick flat pass or a middle screen took way too long to develop. Silva would then bail from the pocket and his passes sailed. He was unable/unwilling too look to his progressions and as a result, no meaningful passing game. Their Red Zone play was poor. Drives stalled and Ziola would immediately abandon the run game that got them beyond the 20 only to then have Silva throw errant passes that either fell out of reach or got intercepted. Running game behind that Oline did well.Early on, 23 would take a handoff and then tip-toe toward the line only to be dropped. In the second half he seemed to find a little more motivation to barrel on in head-first in short yardage situations. 15 demonstrated a little speed and tenacity, scoring the only LA TD late in the game on a 45 yard scamper that gave LA the W.
Special teams were both solid and porous. Poor long snapping, muffed punt receptions and a “senior moment” when LA decided to “back away” from an onside kick allowing the Vikings to recover witout a struggle, showed there is some coahing to be done. On the other hand we have a kicker, 2/3 on field goal attempts and he was actually able to kick into the end zone when kicking off. LA hasn’t had that capability in a while.
All-in-all, I am hoping Santa Monica proves to be a force out there in West Los Angeles and that this win grows in stature over the season. Many of the short-comings can be corrected with coaching and drills, but there is work to be done.
Maybe Coach Ziola should take a page out of Gano’s old playbook and work on devloping Jimenez into a short yardage back. Both Harwell and Cody proved invaluable to the Conq’s when dragging an opponents D-line to multiple first downs and TD’s. 90 looks both fast enough and strong enough to do the same, providing he has the hands.

  • AMAT 73

Tough loss last night . Seems the turnover bug is still around By all the bad and unprepared play to lose by 5 and driving at the end for the win it can be fixed . First game for many on this team so some hard work , learn from the mistakes and on to Texas . No excuses , it’s a loss plain and simple , but learn from the early loss and turn that into wins when the season starts .
    Spartan Pops ,
You should just worry about your team as you seem to be in here popping off on AMAT a lot . Good luck to the Spartans this season . You have enough to worry about in the Inland then to worry about AMAT and Hagerty’s choices

  • Spartan Pops

Didn’t know that giving my opinion about AMAT was POPPPING OFF, I wish nothing but the best for the Lancers. I am friends with a lot of parents and players from AMAT, but I don’t think Haggerty makes the best decisions when it comes to his team. Take it for what its worth but that team has an unbelievable amount of talent this year and if Haggerty cant pull it together with these kids, they need to seriously start thinking about finding another head coach. Good luck to AMAT on your season. AMAT 73 sorry your so sensitive.

  • Jastrab

    Spartan Pops,

Your picked to come in last in your league – focus locally.

  • Fire Hagerty

Well it looks like Principal Beck got rid of the wrong coach. Nieto used to beat Santa Margarita. Hagerty is a joke. They will get waxed this weekend down in Texas. Play Ryder at QB if you want to win.

    • fb102

I was wondering when you were going to post Rudy….
