Legendary Bishop Amat girls basketball coach Richard Wiard resigns

Bishop Amat girls basketball coach Richard Wiard, the winningest girls coach in San Gabriel Valley history and one of the most respected in the CIF-Southern Section, resigned on Friday after 18 years at the school, starting at Amat in 1996.
Wiard said his decision was emotional, and that he’ll discuss it at a later time.
Wiard won five CIF-SS divisional titles, two state championships and finishes with 520 career victories. Wiard won his last title in 2012, beating Division 3A top-seed Oak Park, 44-30 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Wiard was named the CIF-SS coach of the year three times and the Tribune coach of the year six times.
