Tribskin Pick’em: Who do you like, Monrovia-St. Francis? Glendora-Los Altos? La Habra-La Mirada?

The game: In this year’s Tribskin Pick’em, Aram will I will do it a little differently. We’ll pick all games from the SGVN coverage areas of the Tribune, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena Star-News for an all-encompassing, all-out bragging right for 2014, since nobody ever pays the dinner bet. I won last year, ending Aram’s two-year win streak.
Head-2-Head
Aram Tolegian (Last Week: 31-10; Season Total: 91-29)
Fred Robledo (Last Week 29-12; Season Total: 83-37)

mtown

Last Week:
Aram picked up a couple more games, his big difference makers were taking San Gorgonio over Glendora, Glendale over La Canada, and Bassett over El Monte.
This week: Great games in the Pasadena area and is good as Monrovia’s looked, I like St. Francis over the ‘Cats and La Salle over Maranatha. Glendora at Los Altos is intriguing, but this is where Glendora flexes its muscle. Also like Bishop Amat easy over Chino Hills and San Dimas easy over Rosemead. In Whittier, gotta take La Habra over La Mirada, also like Damien over St. Paul.

Saturday Morning QB: Bishop Amat punishes Rancho 46-17; San Dimas crushes Diamond Bar 38-14 and West Covina slams rival South Hills 44-0

Friday’s final scores

BISHOP AMAT WINS EASY: Rancho Cucamonga didn’t tap out. A running clock in the fourth quarter made that decision for it.
After whipping Texas state power Aledo during a trip to Texas last week, Bishop Amat feared a hangover with the hot Cougars in town for the Lancers’ home season opener.
Not a chance.
Amat kept its foot on the gas against a team that has given it fits in the past, racing to a surprisingly easy 29-point halftime lead and eventual 46-17 victory behind senior Anthony Camargo, who rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns, and junior quarterback Damian Garcia, who threw for 199 yards and four touchdowns.

SAN DIMAS WINS BATTLE OF NO. 1s: The San Dimas High School football team knows a little something about being No. 1.
In a battle of teams ranked atop their respective CIF-SS playoff divisions Friday night, the reigning CIF champion Saints convincingly proved to be the better No. 1 in a 38-14 victory over Diamond Bar.
Four turnovers by Diamond Bar (2-1) ended any chance the top-ranked team in the Central Division had to take down the No. 1 team in the Mid-Valley Division.

Friday’s results
Bishop Amat 46, Rancho Cucamonga 17 — QB Damian Garcia with 199 yards and four TD passes in surprisingly easy win.
San Dimas 38, Diamond Bar 14 — OK, maybe it’s time for the Saints to move to the Central since they beat the Central’s No. 1
Charter Oak 35, Damien 30 — Sounds like it was the game of the night and the Chargers usually do get the best of the Spartans.
West Covina 44, South Hills 0 — How far have the Huskies fallen in two weeks?
Burroughs 45, Rosemead 17 — Say this, Panthers playing toughest non-league of MVL schools.
Northview 20, Baldwin Park 6 — Vikings jump to 3-0 and look good doing it.
Los Altos 45, Wilson 7 — Conqs own it, hand Wilson and former Los Altos coach Greg Gano first loss.
Ayala 37, Diamond Ranch 21 — The Ranch stepped up and class and the Ranch got beat.
Bonita 41, Santa Fe 7 — Great bounce back after getting crushed by Monrovia last week.
San Gorgonio 42, Glendora 17 – Maybe I should have researched more on San Gorgonio.
Sierra Vista 30, Keppel 22 — Could be the Dons’ only win of the year.
Walnut 31, La Puente 24– Mustangs rally back to get the W.
Workman 36, Marshall 20 — Lobos needed a win in the worst way.
Ontario 48, Nogales 24 — Nobles in over their head.
Chino 49, South El Monte 27 — Maybe Eagles should lighten up on the schedule.
Claremont 41, Mountain View 6 — Another scheduling mismatch.

@SGVNSports Since my retirement, i'm about to beat down some yogurt land with the family like Amat beats down Cougars pic.twitter.com/im0CnNFVdf

GLENDORA — Former South Hills High School football coach, who is now at Maranatha, made a triumphant return to the East Valley Thursday night.
Caleb Devine rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns and Eli Snyder threw for 171 and two scores and the Minutemen stayed undefeated with a 35-26 victory over Azusa in a nonleague game at Citrus College.
Xavius Boone also had 126 yards receiving and a touchdown for Maranatha, who improved to 3-0. Joseph Ramirez accounted for 241 yards and two touchdowns and Angel Maldonado rushed for 107 and two scores for the Aztecs, which slipped to 0-2.

Maranatha coach Steve Bogan: “Football is football. I’m happy where I’m at. I’ve been at two great places. It’s just great to be coaching young men who has passion and it’s always great to be (on this side of town).”

Azusa coach Joe Scherf: “We found out a little bit about our self (in the second half). We just need to put it all together. We’re a young team, making a lot of mistakes, but by the time we hit league, we’ll have fixed a lot of things.”

Maranatha’s Caleb Devine (on 68-yard TD run): “That was all God. I’m thankful what the Lord has given me, every night, every Friday night. So that was all God right there.”

Also, it would be really helpful if you used our twitter account, @sgvnscores, to share scores and highlights of the game so we can share it with our followers. The more you can do to help, the more we can do to highlight your team and its players.

Justin

Los Altos High School came oh-so-close to a CIF water polo championship. That empty feeling still haunts Justin Contreras.
“It bothers me a lot,” he said. “My whole senior year I’m dedicating to get that ring. I just want to go back and win. I believe we can come out on top this year.”
The Conquerors, playing for the title for the first time in 10 years, fell to Glendale in the Division 5 final. Contreras, one of the leaders of that team, is determined to get Los Altos back there again.
“It will take a lot of conditioning, weight-lifting, swimming 8,000 yards a day; just swimming,” he said of getting back to the title game.

The #SaveMatt campaign for South Hills’ country singing announcer, Matt Rogers didn’t work. He was fired after one game

Breaking News: Matt Rogers reached out and said he was fired as South Hills’ football announcer after his somewhat controversial announcing rubbed school officials and some parents voicing concerns the wrong way. This is a guy who broadcasted a Texas-USC game on TNT, but can’t do a South Hills Friday night game? Oh well, guess the @SaveMatt campaign didn’t work. Poor Matt, was it his fault they picked the worst showing in South Hills history for him to make his debut.

Posted Earlier: More entertaining than La Habra’s 61-0 victory over South Hills on Friday was new Huskies announcer Matt Rogers, a South Hills alum who played at Washington and is good friends with coach Albert Rodriguez. He also happens to be famous having represented the Valley by advancing to the the finals of American Idol. He’s a country singer who made it having also hosted shows like Really Big Things and There Goes the Neighborhood. On Friday, I found him to be so outrageously funny in his description of the game, albeit sometimes too descriptive and often over the top, but he was good. Maybe getting on the officials over the loud speaker or sarcastically wondering why starters are still on the field up six touchdowns is something he needs to tone down, but please, don’t chase him off. Apparently there are some sensitive fans who don’t want Matt back, who don’t want to give him another chance and are pressuring the school to oust him. C’mon, does everything really have to be so serious that we can’t take a little “over the top” at times. He’s funny. He’s witty. He’s worth the price of admission and I’m sure he’s smart enough to tone it down some in his next gig. So that’s it, I’m here to start the #SAVEMATT campaign. Like Matt Wrote, #makeitfun.
