18 of 21 players suspended for participation in the Ayala Football hazing incident reinstated two days before hosting Damien

INLAND BULLETIN: Eighteen of the 21 Ayala High School football players suspended for participation in a hazing incident have been reinstated by the Chino Valley Unified School District to resume playing Thursday and Friday.
“As of Wednesday, 18 students will have been reinstated to participate in practices and games this week as part of the Ayala High School football team,” district spokeswoman Julie Gobin said in a statement. “The investigation continues.”

Fred’s thoughts: Other than missing school because of the suspensions, it’s not clear to us if the 18 players reinstated to participate in practices and games (according to the district) means the players will actually play in JV or varsity games vs. Damien this week. Ayala hosts Damien’s varsity on Friday night. Since Ayala had a bye last week, what are you reinstating players for? … Practice. If the student/player suspensions were nothing more than missing practice and being eligible for the next game, that wouldn’t seem like a very harsh penalty at all. But who knows, maybe the football coaches will hand down their own suspensions and force players who were suspended from school to sit out Friday’s games. But for now, we just don’t know.
