What a night of dominance for Glendora and Matt Fink over Bonita, and a night of upsets … Bishop Amat routs Alemany, Northview shocks San Dimas and El Monte stuns Arroyo

Friday Scoreboard: Click for schedule and scoring updates of Friday’s games

finkGlendora and Matt Fink put on a show: Glendora’s Matt Fink reminded everyone why he’s so special and the Tartans showed why they’re the top-ranked team in the CIF-Southern Section Central Division with an easy 49-13 victory over eighth-ranked Bonita in the Palomares League opener at Charter Oak High School on Friday.
Fink did it with his arms and legs, frustrating the Bearcats with two long touchdown runs and finishing with 202 yards on the ground as the Tartans opened it up with six touchdowns in the second quarter to put it away.

Northview shocks San Dimas: Northview threw all the preseason predictions in the trash when the Vikings knocked off defending Valle Vista League champion San Dimas 44-26 on Friday night. The game was the league opener for both teams and it snapped a 15-game league winning streak by the Saints.

Bishop Amat beats undefeated Alemany: Bishop Amat played a nearly perfect first-half Friday night en route to a 47-20 victory over Alemany High School in a non league game. Maxpreps billed the No. 6-ranked Warriors (5-1, 1-0) vs. No. 17-ranked Lancers (4-3, 1-1) as one of the top games to watch in California this week.

Charter Oak holds off Diamond Ranch: Diamond Ranch gave Charter Oak everything it could handle in the Hacienda League debut, but the Chargers made just enough plays to survive with a 27-24 victory Friday.
Jason Ortiz’s sack just inside Charter Oak territory as time expired prevented Diamond Ranch from attempting a Hail Mary attempt and sealed the victory.

El Monte upsets Arroyo: El Monte High School stopped a late Arroyo scoring attempt to hold on for a surprising 26-23 Mission Valley League victory on Friday night.
The Lions (3-4, 2-1) rallied from a nine-point deficit with a pair of touchdowns and then had to have a bit of luck to stop the reigning league champion Knights (4-3, 1-2). Jonathan Sotelo’s potential game-tying 20-yard field-goal attempt with less than a minute left was wide left.

Friday’s results
Mission League

Bishop Amat 47, Alemany 20 — Don’t need to say anything, biggest win in Steve Hagerty era and now they can think big in the Mission League. That they don’t deserve to be in the Pac-5 Aram talk is so September.

Palomares League
Ayala 33, Claremont 14 — This sets up a great match next week vs. Glendora.
Glendora 49, Bonita 13 — Matt Fink was unbelievable with 202 yards rushing, two TDs and a passing TD.
South Hills 40, Diamond Bar 14 — Big win for South Hills over a Diamond Bar team we thought was much better.

Valle Vista League
Northview 44, San Dimas 26 — One of the giant upsets of the night over the defending Mid-Valley division champs. Who saw this coming? I know I didn’t.
Rowland 20, Nogales 7 — Not surprising, the Nobles are really struggling.

Baseline League
Upland 44, Damien 14 — Almost the score I predicted, will be a long year in the Baseline for Sparty.

Hacienda League
Charter Oak 27, Diamond Ranch 24 — Chargers won a nail-biter having to hold on late.
Chino 30, Los Altos 14 — Conquerors don’t look like the team that played so many other tough teams tough.
West Covina 42, Walnut 0 — You have to start thinking about the Bulldogs’ title chances now.

Miramonte League
Garey 19, Ganesha 7 — Good start for Garey, but don’t expect much more in the Miramonte.
Pomona 74, La Puente 14 — You have to think the Red Devils are probably the best in the Mid-Valley after this.

Mission Valley League
El Monte 26, Arroyo 23 — Of all the shockers, this might the greatest of all. I bet coach Joel Sanchez is dancing somewhere right now.
Gabrielino 35, Mountain View 14 — Eagles still hoping to be a playoff team.
South El Monte 60, Marshall 0 — Not sure the Mission Valley is a good fit for Marshall. Ya think?

Montview League
Azusa 43, Sierra Vista 7 — Aztecs are the favorites until someone knocks them off.
Baldwin Park 42, Duarte 14 — Braves showing they might be the league favorites.
