Boys Basketball: Great way to start the Palomares on Friday with Bonita at Glendora

When the new Palomares league was created, there was a lot of excitement and anticipation for the boys basketball season, which gets underway Friday with arguably the two best teams going head-to-head in the opener.
Glendora (13-2), which was the CIF-SS Division 2AA preseason No. 1 and winners of its own Glendora tournament with a victory over San Dimas in the December final, will host Bonita (14-2) on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Glendora has been good for years but had struggled competing for league title in the Baseline, where it ran up against the likes of Etiwanda, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland and others.
Now in the Palomares, the Tartans are considered the league favorites, though others like Bonita, winners of the La Canada tournament along with Ayala (12-2) and Diamond Bar (8-6), figure to give the Tartans all it can handle over the next two months.
“I think the league situation is great,” Glendora coach Mike LeDuc said. “When you’re in a league with Etiwanda, you knew it was almost impossible to get a win because they were so talented. What you have in the (Palomares) is a league where you can win or lose on any night, so you’ve always got a chance but you’ve got to come and play. I think that’s all you can ask.”
