Bishop Amat boys basketball rally comes up short at Bell Jeff, 79-76 Posted on January 15, 2015 by Fred Robledo Bishop Amat’s hot start takes back seat in league opener, losing to Bell-Jeff: The newly configured Camino Real League is going to have a wild finish, with every team seemingly having a chance. The first league matchup on Wednesday night proved that point. Bellarmine-Jefferson High survived three last-second 3-point attempts from visiting Bishop Amat to secure a 79-76 victory. “It’s going to be a tough league, but we can pull out a lot of them,” said Bishop Amat senior Josh Andarza, who had a game-high 29 points. The game was surprisingly not very close until the game’s final 2:08, when the Lancers (13-4) pulled to win four points, the closest they had been since the start of the second half. The Guards (13-3), the top-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 5A, had dominated the second quarter to take a double-digit lead. “We weren’t scared,” said Bell-Jeff center Abid Oses, who had 26 points. “We’ve had situations like that pretty much every game. We know what happens.”
