lapuentesoccerLa Puente boys soccer remains undefeated: La Puente High School third-year boys soccer coach Cesar Torrico told his team before Tuesdays’ Miramonte League matchup with Ganesha to treat the game like it was for the league title.
The Warriors, who trailed first-place Ganesha (11-3-3, 3-1) by a half game coming into the contest, did just that and defeated the host Giants 3-1, behind a two-goal performance by sophomore midfielder Daniel Lopez.
With the victory, La Puente (9-0-3, 3-0-1) takes over first place by a half game.
Ganesha’s lone tally came from midfielder Kevin Pleitez and La Puente’s third goal came from another sophomore midfielder, Marcos Picaz.
“Coming into this game we knew it was going to be a tough opponent,” said Lopez, who scored his first two goals of the season. “Ever since our (1-1) tie with Garey, we knew this was a big game. He (Torrico) said, and I quote, ‘Treat it like it’s a league championship, like it’s the last game.’”
