HALL OF FAME NOTEBOOK: In years past, the West team’s achilles’ heel in the San Gabriel Valley Hall of Fame All-Star Game for high school football seniors has been an inability to stack up in the trenches.
That’s probably not going to be much of an issue this season. Thanks to a tweak in the borders that determine the talent pools, the West should be just fine at the line of scrimmage on Friday night at West Covina High. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
“We’ve heard there’s not as big of a difference as there has been,” West coach Steve Bogan of Maranatha said. “It would be nice to have another couple of linemen, but we’re good. We have some good-sized guys out there.”
Thanks to linemen like West Covina’s Eric Quevedo, who will play next season at Boise St., Los Altos’ David Tolmachoff and Bishop Amat’s Andrew Lopez, who under previous guidelines would have been on the East roster, the West’s skill players may thrive a bit more than local fans are used to seeing.
