STORY: Bloomington High had won five straight CIF-SS Wrestling Dual Meet Championships, but the Bruins had never faced a team as good as Covina Northview.
On Saturday, second-seeded Bloomington got its chance but it was top-seeded Northview that came away with the CIF-SS Central Division title, with a 31-28 victory in the final at Alta Loma High School.
Northview continued to be a thorn in Bloomington’s side. Bloomington had finished runner-up to Northview four straight years in the CIF-SS Individual Championships, although they are not in the same division this year.
“They’re a premier program,” Northview head coach Bobby Bellamy said. “We knew we were in for a war, and we were preparing for a war.”
