Bonita girls basketball shocks and knocks South Hills out of first in the Palomares, 44-40

STORY: In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Bonita girls basketball team, the young Bearcats upset South Hills, the Tribune’s top ranked team, 44-40, on Monday.
The win clinched a spot for Bonita in the CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs, which begin next week.
“We had to win tonight to get in,” Bearcats coach Darren Baumunk said. “I’m proud of these girls the way they have stepped up. They’re a young group and they’re starting to learn that the harder they work, the better things get.”
