Covina boys soccer wins first Valle Vista league soccer title in history with 2-1 win over Nogales Posted on February 12, 2015 by Fred Robledo COLTS WIN FIRST TITLE EVER: It’s not about how you start, it’s how you finish. That was the case not only for the Covina high school boys soccer team in its 2-1 Valle Vista League title-clinching victory over Nogales, but also over the course of the entire season. The Colts (10-8, 8-2) start to the game couldn’t have been much worse, with Nogales (11-5-4, 6-3-1) scoring in the opening minute and nearly adding another just over a minute later. However, Covina stayed patient, shutting out the Nobles offense for the remaining 79 minutes of play, and eventually got the game-winning goal from Luis Nahue. After starting the season 3-7, Covina found a way to turn its season around to win seven of its last eight games, including each of the final five games. The final score of each of those games was 2-1, and each time, Covina had to come back after surrendering the first goal.
