Boys Soccer playoffs: Bishop Amat crushes Palmdale 5-1 behind two goals each from Brandon Arconado and Havier Zaragosa; Andre Gamboa with three in Diamond Bar rout

The Bishop Amat boys soccer team had reason to feel slighted when the CIF-SS Division 3 pairings were released. How could a team with just one loss all season to Cathedral, the top seed and arguably one of the best in Southern California, have to play in a wild card after finishing second to Cathedral in the Del Rey, and also boasting a 4-4 tie against them earlier in the year?
It made no sense and Amat showed how silly it was with an easy 5-1 victory over Palmdale in Wednesday’s wild card, advancing the Lancers (12-1-4) to Friday’s first-round game against Pacific League champion Pasadena.
David Cabral scored 30 seconds into the match and freshman Havier Zaragosa and Brandon Arconado each scored twice.
Zaragosa drew a penalty kick and finished it himself in the 12th minute, and added another in the 30th to give Amat a 3-0 lead.
Arconado, also a stud receiver for the Lancers in football, scored in the sixth minute and finished things off in the 70th.
Zaragosa and Arcondado spoke following the game, as did Pasadena coach Cherif Zein in the stands to watch. Watch and listen to what they had to say … In another D-3 game, Diamond Bar’s scored three goals and Guy Horcasitas added two give the Brahmas and easy 5-0 win over Templeton. Diamond Bar is another team that had no business having to play in a wild card.
