The Huskies played the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA playoffs the same way, as they coasted to a 76-41 victory over Gahr on Thursday night.
The sixth-seeded Huskies (21-6) will play at No. 11 seed Pacifica of Garden Grove at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
The Huskies were on fire from beyond the 3-point line, hitting seven of 10 shots in the first quarter on their way to a 26-8 lead and they never looked back.
Covina cruises to win: The Covina High School girls basketball team validated its No. 11 seed with a lopsided victory over Monrovia, 51-23, Thursday night to advance to the second round of the CIF-SS Division 3A playoffs.
By halftime, the Colts (19-9) had a 25-10 lead, and that was all they would have needed offensively after holding the Wildcats (7-16) to just 13 second-half points.
The defense stepped up for Covina, forcing Remy Hare and Stephanie Perez into 18 combined turnovers. Mariah Sierra and Diana Navarro led the Colts’ defensive effort with seven and six steals, respectively.
