Girls Basketball: South Hills, Duarte advance to quarters; Arroyo, Walnut, West Covina also win

arroyofansArroyo reaches second round: Perseverance paid off for the Arroyo girls basketball team with a 47-43 win over Temple City in a CIF-Southern Section Division 2A first-round playoff game on Saturday night.
The Knights, who have won eight consecutive games, will play at top-seeded Lakeside (Lake Elsinore) on Wednesday night at 7.
The Knights (18-9) took their first lead, 45-43, with 32.4 seconds left in the game when Naomi Aguilar made a layup and a free throw when she was fouled on the shot.
Temple City missed a 3-point attempt from the corner that would have won the game but Aguilar grabbed the rebound and made two free throws with one second left for the final margin.
