Walnut routs Mayfair, Loyola next: Eighth-seeded Walnut continued its high scoring ways with an 84-65 win over ninth-seeded Mayfair in a second-round game of the CIF-Southern Section Division 1A playoffs on Tuesday night.
It was the 15th consecutive win for the Mustangs (25-5), who will travel to top-seeded Loyola for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal matchup on Friday night.
The Mustangs started the third quarter on a 14-4 run to blow the game open and led 63-44 at the end of that period.

Bonita pulls it out: For the first time in 10 years, the Bonita High School boys basketball team has returned to the CIF-Southern Section semifinals.
The Bearcats held off a fierce comeback and defeated host Buena Park, 84-74, to advance to the Division 3AA semifinals on Friday night against Gahr, a 69-42 winner over Los Altos. Bonita (23-6) will host the game.
After building up a 17-point lead, 36-19, late in the second quarter Bonita looked like they were going to run Buena Park (21-8) out of the packed gym, but they came roaring back and by the end of the third quarter led by nine, 68-59.

Los Altos can keep up with Gahr: No. 2 seed Gahr High had little trouble Tuesday night at home as the Gladiators picked up a 69-42 win over Los Altos in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA quarterfinals behind balanced scoring and defense.
The win marked the third consecutive blowout victory for the Gladiators, who will take on Bonita on the road in the semifinals Friday
“This feels great. Last year we were out in the first round and it was the worst feeling ever,” said senior guard Gregory Carlyle, who led the team with 16 points. “It just feels amazing to be in the position.”
