South Hills girls basketball finished in semifinals; Damien bows out in open consolation

SOUTH HILLS FINISHED: South Hills’ run in the CIF-SS girls basketball playoffs came to an end on Saturday night when it dropped a 66-50 decision to second-seeded El Dorado in the Division 3AA semifinals.
The Huskies (24-6), the Tribune’s top ranked team all season, made it to the semifinals for the first time since 1992 after knocking off No. 3 Antelope Valley in the quarters.
“There is no reason for these kids to hang their head,” Huskies coach Tiffany Liang said. “No one expected us to get this far. This was definitely the best team we’ve played all year. They have two (NCAA) Division I kids and they were in the CIF finals last year in a higher division (2A) and made a run in the State finals.”
The Huskies were outrebounded on the defensive boards and gave up too many second shots in the first half as well as having trouble stopping the Golden Hawks’ fast breaks, falling behind 40-24 at the half.
