Friday’s Recap: Charter Oak wins Hacienda League opener with extra-inning victory over Diamond Ranch

— The Chargers scored three runs in the eighth inning to break the tie and went on to win the Hacienda League opener.
West Covina 1, Walnut 0 — Alex Carrillo threw a complete-game shutout with just three hits allowed and 10 strikeouts to lead the Bulldogs to victory in their Hacienda League opener against Walnut (2-2-2, 0-2). Eric Vasquez manufactured the only run for West Covina (5-3, 1-0) scoring on a wild pitch after reaching on a single and advancing on a stolen base and groundout.
Los Altos 6, Chino 3
South Hills 1, Claremont 0 — South Hills got a one-hit complete game shutout with four strikeouts from Gavin Velasquez, who also scored the only run of the game to defeat the Wolfpack (4-3, 0-1) in the Palomares League opener. Frank Ramirez drove in Velasquez with a single for the Huskies (5-1, 1-0) after Velasquez reached on an error in the third inning.

Schurr 3, Alhambra 1
— Gilbert Rosario hit a two-run double in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie to give Schurr the victory and handing Alhambra its first Almont League loss since 2013. Kenny Carrillo got the win with six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts. Michael Corona came into the game in the bottom of the seventh for Schurr to get the save with a scoreless frame. Julian Zermeno hit an RBI-double for Alhambra’s only run of the game.
