Saturday Recap: Nathan Schneider earns win for Bonita baseball over Servite in first varsity appearance

Bonita 6, Servite 1
— In his first career varsity appearance, sophomore Nathan Schneider tossed five innings of one-run ball to lead the Bearcats to their fifth victory of the year defeating the Friars (3-7). Schneider finished the game with five strikeouts for Bonita (5-3) to earn the victory, while the offense supported him with six runs on eight hits.
Shortstop Alex Gonzalez went 2 for 4 with a two-run single in the third inning, driving in Brandon Bradshaw and Danny Gelalich. Bradshaw, who has a team-best .524 batting average on the season, also went 2 for 4, singling twice and stole a base to get himself in scoring position before Gonzalez drove him in during the third. Freshman second baseman Tommy Delgado went 1 for 4 with a run and RBI in his first game as the leadoff hitter.
Schneider retired nine of the first 11 batters he faced and didn’t let a runner into scoring position through the first four innings. Servite threatened in the bottom of the sixth, but Jake Salsman came into the game to shut down the Friars with 1.2 scoreless innings, maintaining his perfect ERA on the year.
Glendora, Walnut — The Tartans and Mustangs played a non-league double-header with Glendora winning both games by scores of 7-6 and 6-5.
Softball
Glendora 7, Ontario Christian 5
— After getting an 8-0 win earlier in the day over Whittier Christian, Glendora won the championship of the Ontario Christian Tournament. Taylor Tetone was named the tournament’s MVP after hitting a home run in both of Saturday’s games. Kayla Sok and Hailey Mollno also were named to the all-tournament team.
