MAYA THROWS A NO-NO: The San Dimas baseball team already had a pretty formidable 1-2 punch on the mound with senior Peter Lambert and junior Jacob Castillo. Now they might actually have a third ace.
Junior right-hander Angel Maya, a transfer from Bishop Amat, hurled the Saints past Southlands Christian 16-0 on Tuesday in a first-round game of the Don Lugo Easter Tournament. Maya threw a seven-inning no-hitter, striking out six. He issued one walk and hit a batter in his debut, which comes after the transfer sit-out period.
“This was his first time out there other than a bullpen,” Saints coach Mike Regan said, “He’s not the power pitcher the other two are, but he has a good curve ball and a split finger, so he’s going to add to the depth we have on the mound. It just gives us one more option and another dimension. It really helps when you have these tournaments and have a lot of games in a few days.”
