PITCHING DOMINANCE: South Hills scored five runs in the first inning and coasted to a 10-0 win over Monrovia on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies, (12-3) ranked No. 1 by the Tribune, dominated in the circle, giving up only one hit, and snapped the Wildcats’ seven-game winning streak to hand the Pasadena Star-News’ No. 1-ranked team its first shutout loss of the year.
“They’ve got great pitching,” said Wildcats coach David Guzman, whose team fell to 11-4. “I wish we could have put up a better fight, but it was one of those days.”
Senior Caitlyn VanHemelryck, who has signed with Southeastern Louisiana University, started the game and pitched four innings of no-hit ball, giving up an unearned run in the top of the third inning.
She struck out three batters and didn’t allow a ball out of the infield until the fourth inning. She saw only one baserunner, a hit batter, as she picked up her fifth win of the season.
