MT. SAC PREVIEW: San Gabriel Valley track and field athletes are now getting a feel for the postseason.
A week after facing big names in the Arcadia Invitational, many of the same high school athletes will be taking part in the 57th annual Brooks/Mt. SAC Relays this weekend. In a way, it is a preview of what will come in late May when the same athletes try to qualify for the CIF State meet with nearly three weeks of eliminations.
Twenty-four area athletes and 13 relay teams have been invited to compete in the invitational portion of the meet, which features the top high school athletes. More than 100 area athletes will compete in open and seeded events throughout the two-day competition, which begins on Friday.
On Saturday, some of the world’s top athletes are scheduled to compete in elite events. That includes Allyson Felix, Brenda Martinez, Erik Sowinski, Maggie Vessey, Duane Solomon, English Gardner and Lashinda Demus. Covina’s Remontay McClain and San Marino’s Omhunique Browne are expected to compete in the elite portion of the meet.
