Star-News owns the night with a sweep over the Tribune in 12th annual All-Star Classic

Fans were treated to a thrilling show tonight, particularly in the boys game with the Star-News coming away with an impressive 109-102 victory over the Tribune to even the series at 6-6. Renaissance Academy’s Marquise Mosley earned MVP honors for the West with 14 points and five assists, and Cantwell Sacred Heart’s Oregon State-bound bigman Gligorije Rakocevic finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Tribune was led by three-time Tribune player of the year Jeremy Hemsley from Damien, who earned East MVP honors with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists. Glendora’s Brandon Brothers finished with 19 points and Damien’s Malik Fitts had 14 points, seven boards and Micah Robinson finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Los Altos’ Michael Barrera won the three-point contest knocking down 13 buckets in the final.

In the girls game, Star-News and Maranatha’s Northridge bound center Channon Fluker dominated with 20 points, 14 reboounds and five blocks to earn West MVP honors in leading the Star-News to an easy 64-57 win over the Tribune to take a 7-5 lead in the overall series. South Hills’ Sam Perez had a good night finishing with 8 points and six rebounds to earn East MVP honors. South Pasadena’s Lexi Scholtz won the 3-point contest with 14 baskets in the final.
