UNDEFEATED EDGEWOOD: For those who love trivia, you could probably win a few bucks asking when’s the last time the Edgewood High School softball team lost a league game.
Try 1988, that’s when the green-and-gold Edgewood Trojans closed its doors before re-emerging as a high school a few years back as the navy blue and gold Edgewood Lions.
Edgewood sports has gradually acquainted itself with the San Gabriel Valley again. The school doesn’t have a football team, but its softball team is the talk of the town, or at least the school, though few really know what to make of it.
For example, Edgewood was ranked No. 4 in last week’s CIF-Southern Section Division 5 softball poll, then proceeded to sweep Bassett, 23-0 and 20-0.
The pollsters were so impressed with the undefeated Lions’ week of work that they dropped them to No. 6 in this week’s poll.
Edgewood is 12-0, but there is some skepticism that comes with it because the Lions didn’t participate in any pre-league tournaments, nor have the Lions played anyone that would allow you to compare them to the best in their division, or the best in the SGV.
