Rowland’s Michael Wang dominates Valle Vista Swim Finals; Claremont’s Andrew Leahy win Palomares tennis title

ROWLAND’S MICHAEL WANG DOMINATES: Ten league records, including four individual marks by Rowland’s Michael Wang, were set in his own pool.“We swam lights out,” Rowland coach Mike Cody said. “San Dimas swam pretty well, too. It was a fast meet.”Wang qualified with meet records in the 200 individual medley (1:53.1) and the 100 backstroke (51.96). He led off both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and got records in each (21.10 in the 50 and 45.73 in the 100). Both Raiders relay teams set records as well (1:30.45 and 3:20.45, respectively).Every boys winner had an automatic qualifying time. Setting meet records were San Dimas’ Zach Patrick in the 200 free (1:51.73) and 500 free (5:08.27) and Rowland’s Andrew Phan in the 100 butterfly (51.34). Phan also won the 50 free.

CLAREMONT’S ANDREW LEAHY WINS PALOMARES TENNIS TITLE: Junior Andrew Leahy from Claremont High School claimed the boys tennis singles title in the Palomares League by beating South Hills’ Kevin Tang 6-0, 6-4 in the semifinals and Neil Tengbumroong from Diamond Bar 6-2, 6-1 in the final on Thursday afternoon at the Claremont Club.
Bonita’s pairing of Matt Diamond and Bennett Williams won the league doubles title. They beat Roger Yang and Daniel Chai from Diamond Bar 6-2, 6-4, and then defeated Glendora’s Dillon Barnard and Justin Lay 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match.
