#WhyNotUs Walnut ready to tackle Redondo Union in Saturday’s Division 3 baseball championship at San Manuel Stadium

“For the rest of their life they’ll be able to tell the story and tell their kids how they beat San Dimas, how they knocked off a 31-0 team. But you know what’s better than that? Bringing your kids back to the school years later and showing them that championship team that will be on the gym wall. Or showing them that ring. That’s what one more game is all about.” Walnut coach Paul Acosta on Saturday’s title game

What: CIF-Southern Section Division 3 championship
When: Saturday at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino, 1 p.m.
Who: Walnut (21-7-2) vs. Redondo Union (28-7)
PREVIEW: The moment is now for the Walnut High School baseball team, otherwise known as #WhyNotUs Walnut on social media, a hashtag junior pitcher Christian Longoria started playing with on Twitter that spread like wildfire at the school and community. It was created for a lot of reasons.
Walnut isn’t usually in the conversation when discussing the area’s best teams, nor were many folks giving it a chance when the playoffs began, despite its hot run at the end of the year.
“Christian stumbled on it, it’s one of those things in an era of technology and social networking,” Walnut coach Paul Acosta said. “I think what it says is our guys have been working hard for this like anyone else and they’ve got a little chip on their shoulder.
