LA MIRADA ROUTS CHARTER OAK: The La Mirada High School football team bounced back from its Week 0 thrashing at the hands of St. John Bosco to rout host Charter Oak on Friday night in a 35-14 victory.
BISHOP AMAT GETS MUCH NEEDED WIN: With so much in doubt and players missing left and right, Bishop Amat quarterback Damian Garcia and receiver Tyler Vaughns made sure Amat wouldn’t start 0-2.
Garcia threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 76 yards and two scores to help Amat, ranked fifth in the CIF-SS Pac-5 Division, to a 28-10 victory over No. 10 Servite (1-1).

WEST COVINA FALLS SHORT: St. Francis wide receiver Jasher Foster scored two touchdowns, and running back Areg Nazarian added another to lead the Golden Knights football to a 36-24 win in its season opener against West Covina on Friday.
MONTEBELLO HOLDS OFF NORTHVIEW: Quarterback Ryan Rivera accounted for 316 yards and four touchdowns and running back Isaac Mendibles rushed for 226 and a touchdown to lead Montebello to a 43-42 victory over Northview on Friday in a battle of two of the top teams in the Mid-Valley Division.
SAN DIMAS ROUTS MARANATHA: San Dimas broke a 7-7 tie with 34 unanswered points and a dominant ground attack to knock off Maranatha 41-7 in the season opener for the Saints.“That first win feels good,” first-year coach Mark Holman said. “I was really proud of our discipline and our quarterback play plus we’ve got a bunch of guys that can carry the ball.”
