Bonita three-peats the Smudge: The Smudge Pot is staying put for another year. Bonita High School’s football team took advantage of some costly San Dimas special-teams miscues to post a 28-7 win over the rival Saints at Citrus College on Friday night. Bonita has won three straight in one of the area’s most-heated series.
Charter Oak routs Glendora: Mourning the loss of longtime coach Bud Reich, who passed away last Sunday, Charter Oak dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage and beat visiting Glendora 28-7 in a nonleague game on Friday night. The win gives the Chargers (4-1) the Mayor’s Trophy for the first time since 2012.
Sweet’s 252 yards pace Bishop Amat: Bishop Amat served notice to the rest of the Mission League that the Lancers are very serious in their quest to win the league title, demolishing visiting Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 56-7 in a league opener Friday night. Running back Torreahno Sweet led the way for Bishop Amat (4-1, 1-0). He had 15 carries for 252 yards and three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 59, 54 and 57 yards. He also ended up with three catches for 61 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown. Sweet sat out the entire fourth quarter.
West Covina knocks off Santa Fe: In a game that featured many big plays and droves of possessions, West Covina was able to get more done with its chances, and the Bulldogs beat Santa Fe 47-21 in a nonleague game Friday night at Pioneer High. West Covina (2-3) got important contributions from many players, including senior quarterback Aaron McCorkle, who threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 6-for-15 passing.
