SAN DIMAS 28, CALIFORNIA 21

SAN DIMAS — There were those who thought the San Dimas High School football team might suffer a let-down this week after losing to rival Bonita last week.
The Saints on Thursday they are very capable of putting disappointing setbacks behind them.
Jarell Sykes rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns as host San Dimas rallied from two touchdowns down in the first half to score a 28-21 victory over California in a nonleague game.
Joey Tamayo threw for 107 yards and a touchdown for the Saints, who improved to 3-2. Robert Leos rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown for the Condors, who slipped to 1-4.
Sykes had a 19-yard run to give San Dimas a 22-21 lead late in the third quarter before running 56 yards for a 28-21 lead with 1:15 left in the game.
California drove inside the 50 but gave up on downs with eight seconds left following an incomplete pass.
San Dimas’ Jarell Sykes: “We really didn’t want to lose that game. In the first half, we played really tired, but we just knew this game wasn’t over. We just had to keep pushing, and yeah (we won).”

GLENDORA 29, KAISER 24
GLENDORA — Matt Fink is supposed to be on the throwing end of big plays. Not the receiving side.
But Glendora High School used a bit of trickery on probably the Tartans’ biggest drive of the season to defeat Kaiser, 29-24, in the final nonleague contest for both teams on Thursday night at Citrus College.
Kaiser rallied to take a 24-23 lead, and all the Cats (3-2) had to do was stop Fink and the Tartans (4-1) one last time.
With first down at the Kaiser 47-yard line, the Tartans quickly lined up backup quarterback Forrest Affra at center without a huddle and put Fink along the sidelines. Affra made a spinning fake handoff, just like Fink did for most of the game, and threw a rocket to the streaking Fink, who has committed to play quarterback at USC next year. Fink caught the ball at the 10. On the next play, Fink was back behind center and he carried the ball in with 2:24 to play for the winning score.
