Predictions: Expect Charter Oak, Glendora, Northview, Baldwin Park and Pomona to win league titles

My football league predictions entering league this week …

echols
Hacienda League
1. Charter Oak, 2. West Covina, 3. Los Altos, 4. Diamond Ranch, 5. Chino, 6. Walnut
Buying: What the Chargers did to Glendora shows me they’re the best of the best. West Covina’s three losses were to Colony, Tesoro and St. Francis, I just think their size will take care of everyone but the speed of Charter Oak. Once Los Altos gets away from silly trick plays, they’re a legitimate playoff contender. They could possibly finish second, but that’s their ceiling.
Not buying: Diamond Ranch’s wins have come against opponents with a combined 4-17 record and they lost 7-0 to South Hills. Chino may be undefeated, but that’s only because they played the weakest schedule among the group. Barely beating Rowland means they’ll probably lose to Charter Oak by 30 on Friday.

TartyPalomares League
1. Glendora, 2. Bonita, 3. Claremont, 4. Diamond Bar, 5. Ayala, 6. South Hills.
Buying: Extremely tough league to call. Any of the top four could possibly win it, but buying the Tartans because of QB Matt Fink. Charter Oak matched up well and blew out the Tartans, but the Tartans have played a tough schedule, tougher than anyone in the Palomares and should be good enough to win it. Will they go undefeated? Not sure, but they’re the best of the rest. Bonita’s win over Monrovia was impressive and what they’ve done to teams they’re supposed to beat is impressive, but can they keep it going? The Bearcats’ league title hopes will be determined the first two weeks opening with Claremont followed by Glendora.
Not Buying: I love the defense Diamond Bar is playing, I just feel the teams I have ahead are better. Slightly. Ayala and South Hills are just spoilers, if they win one or two, that’s their ceiling.

vikingsValle Vista League
1. Northview, 2. Covina, 3. San Dimas, 4. Rowland, 5. Nogales, 6. Wilson
Buying: I’m drinking Northview’s cool-aid and the Vikings’ ability to go undefeated in the VVL. If there’s a chance they lose, I expect it to come from rival Covina more than San Dimas. The top three are far and away the top three. Covina has the head-scratching loss to Baldwin Park, but they almost beat Claremont, losing in the final seconds. San Dimas is tough to call. They’ve looked great at times and shaky at times. I just think Northview and Covina are slightly better.
Not buying: Rowland, Nogales and Wilson have no shot at the top three, but among those, Rowland has looked the best while Nogales and their uniforms look the best. For Wilson and Gano, good thing they had a scheduled win against Keppel or it could have been 0-10.

pacoperezMontview League
1. Baldwin Park, 2. Duarte, 3. Azusa, 4. Gladstone, 5. Sierra Vista, 6. Workman
Buying: The Braves should win league easy, they’re simply better than everyone else. They will win the way Azusa use to own this league when they were rolling. What’s interesting is the battle for second and third, and I’m going with two teams, Duarte and Azusa, who are both 0-5. When I look at who they played and some of the scores, it’s more impressive to me than the wins Sierra Vista and Gladstone have. Nobody has played any super giants, but Duarte and Azusa’s schedule will pay off in Montview playoff spots, you watch and see.
Not buying: Sierra Vista or Gladstone. Sierra Vista’s only win came against Keppel and Gladstone’s wins came against Nogales and Garey in close games.

pomonatitleMiramonte League
1. Pomona, 2. Ganesha, 3. Bassett, 4. La Puente, 5. Garey
Buying: The defending champion Red Devils will take it, but not as easy as I thought when the season began. Ganesha could be dangerous and has a legitimate chance to knock off Pomona. Bassett is much improved too. What the Miramonte has shown me during non-league is that it’s better than the Montview from top to bottom. You couldn’t say that a year ago.
Not buying: La Puente has fallen on hard times losing two solid head coaches in recent years and Garey is still Garey. Not sure either two have a shot at cracking the top three.
