Walnut edges San Marino in own golf tournament

Walnut won its own golf tournament at California Country Club in Whittier, edging San Marino when the teams tied for first.
The Mustangs won on the sixth player after the top five players from each team shot a combined 392. Walnut won on the sixth player, 85-91.
San Marino’s Elizabeth Wang shot an even-par 72 to take the individual title.
Katherine Muzi shot a 74 to tie for fourth to lead the Mustangs.
Beth Lillie of Troy and Andrea Lee of Mira Costa both shot a 73. Venessa Wang of La Serna also had a 74.
In the championship flip, La Serna finished in fourth place, the Walnut No. 2 team in sixth, Glendora in 12th and Bishop Amat in 13th. La Serna’s Briana Chacon, San Marino’s Bella Setio and Walnut’s Abigail Wiranatha all tied for seventh with 77s.
In the A flight, where four scores counted among five players, Walnut No. 3 won with a 352 with Walnut No. 4 second at 390. West Covina was sixth, Charter Oak seventh, Arcadia eighth and Diamond Ranch ninth.
