Bonita, Bishop Amat, West Covina all lose heartbreakers; Charter Oak crushes Chino

Claremont beats Bonita on trick play: It may only be the first week of Palomares League play but if the opener between Claremont and Bonita is any indication of what’s to come, it could be quite the race. The contest featured two 5-0 teams and rivals that are separated by just 3.8 miles. It was Claremont coming away with a 33-29 win on Friday at Glenn Davis Stadium.

Khalil Tate runs wild on Amat: When Bishop Amat scored with four minutes left to move ahead by four points Friday night for its first lead of the game, it seemed like the Lancers finally had Serra right where they wanted them. And when four Bishop Amat defenders had Serra quarterback Khalil Tate wrapped up for a sack on the ensuing possession, it seemed like they had Tate exactly where they wanted him. Until they didn’t.
