Bishop Amat drops 72 on Norco; Charter Oak, Northview, Glendora, San Dimas all win

High School Football live scoreboard updates
SWEET20

AMAT CRUSHES NORCO: If conventional wisdom holds true, the Bishop Amat High football team will need to defeat juggernauts St. John Bosco and Corona Centennial in consecutive weeks to win the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division championship.
Aided by a 43-point second-quarter outburst, the Lancers (9-2) took their first step toward that tall task Friday night at Kiefer Stadium with a 72-36 first-round victory over Norco.

Don Lugo knocks out Bonita: It had been long enough since the Don Lugo High School football team had won a playoff game, the coaching staff couldn’t dig up that last postseason victory in the records.
The Conquistadores are more worried about their future after a 28-19 victory over Bonita on Friday night in the first round of the CIF-SS Central Division playoffs.

San Marino eliminates Diamond Ranch: Diamond Ranch High School’s football team gave San Marino its best game of the season, and it still wasn’t nearly enough.
The Titans improved to 11-0 with a 35-21 victory over the visiting Panthers in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Central Division playoffs on Friday night. San Marino, the division’s No. 3 seed, will visit Don Lugo in next week’s second round. San Marino’s closest game before Friday’s result was 35 points.

Covina edges Arroyo: Covina may have needed an at-large bid to make the CIF Southern Section playoffs but the Colts took advantage of the opportunity and beat fifth-seeded Arroyo 35-28 in a Mid-Valley Division first-round game on Friday night. Covina (7-4) will host Viewpoint, another at-large team, Friday at 7 p.m.

Schurr 27, Baldwin Park 26
Quarterback Miguel Aguero scored in overtime on a 1-yard run and Eddie Delgado picked off a Jacob Robles pass on a two-point conversion attempt and Schurr High School rallied for a 27-26 CIF Southern Section Mid-Valley Division first-round victory on Friday night.
The Spartans (6-5) trailed the Montview League champions (7-4) 20-10 at the half. Aguero scored in the third quarter and Pedro Moreno kicked a field goal to send it into overtime. Schurr got the ball first in OT. On third-and-5 from the 20, Aguero got a key first down on a 5-yard pass to Anthony Varela. The Spartans marched the ball to the 1, where Aguero scored and Moreno kicked the extra point.
On the Braves’ first play of overtime, Robles was sacked. But on third-and-19, he hit Louis Flores on a 34-yard pass. Two plays later, Robles scored. The Braves lined up to kick the extra point to tie the game, but when the ball went through the goalposts it was waived off, the Braves calling time out before the snap.
Baldwin Park elected to go for the win and the Braves lined up all of their receivers on the right side. Robles was supposed to lob the ball up, but the pass was more of a beeline, right to Delgado.
The Braves led 14-0 when Carlos Varguez intercepted a Arguero pass and went 82 yards for a score. Flores rushed for 107 yards and a TD for the Braves.
— Rudy Ramos

Glendora 34, South Pasadena 0
Matt Fink did it again. The Tartans’ quarterback threw two touchdown passes and scored two touchdowns himself in the first round of the Central Division playoffs in a game played at Citrus College.
Fink threw for 62 yards, completing 4-of-9 passes and he and rushed for 50 yards on nine carries. Tight end Corey Taylor scored the first touchdown and cornerback Michael Lowe, Jr. scored the second before Fink scored his pair of touchdowns. Running back Anthony Montano led the fourth-seeded Tartans (10-1) in rushing yards with 114.
The Tartans play at Colony next week.

San Dimas 49, Bassett 21 Charter Oak 49, Ayala 0
Zion Echols scored four touchdowns on 11 carries and ran for 149 yards before being pulled after one carry in the second half as the top-seeded Chargers rolled to a Central Division victory.
It was the Echols and Kam Brown Show in the first half. The two combined for four rushing touchdowns as the Chargers scored on four of their five first-half possessions, taking a commanding 28-0 lead at halftime.
Echols played only one play in the second half, which was a 54-yard touchdown scamper to extend the lead to 35-0.
The Chargers’ defense forced five turnovers and sacked Ayala’s quarterback five times. Charter Oak will be at home against Monrovia in the second round.
L.J. Velez

Northview 48, Rosemead 17
Quarterback Steven Comstock used a dominating performance to lead the Vikings in a Mid-Valley Division game at Covina District Field. Northview (10-1) played Rosemead (5-6) in the opening week of the season and Northview won, 37-24. This game was much more one-sided.
Comstock completed 13 of 21 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball 11 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns. The Vikings will host third-seed Pomona next week.
