La Mirada celebrates: The rain fell on the football field at Goodman Stadium for the first time this year, but the water couldn’t wash away the championship dreams of the La Mirada Matadores. Playing a championship game on their home field for the third consecutive week, the Matadores waited until the rain broke and then broke the game open in the second half, claiming the CIF State Division III-AA championship with a 27-3 win over Moraga Campolindo. The win was a dream come true for La Mirada head coach Mike Moschetti, who played at the school and was a CIF player of the year before going on to an NCAA career as a quarterback and a pro baseball career.
