Ayala High School did not have to go inside the paint to win its Palomares League showdown against host Bonita on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs only had to follow their shots.
Ayala secured 15 offensive rebounds and turned them into easy put-back baskets en route to a 67-51 victory.
“We got some rebounds and got some put-backs we normally don’t get,” Ayala coach John Mounce said. “We did not finish seven or eight times and I was about to pull my hair out. But we stayed with it.”
The Bulldogs (19-2) took control of the league race, completing the first round of league play undefeated. It was the first league loss for Bonita (17-5).
