South Hills Girls Soccer advances to championship in sudden death, 3-2; Sierra Vista, Covina lose

South Hills advances to first title game: The top-seeded South Hills High School girls soccer team continues to rewrite the history book for the program. On Tuesday, it came in the second overtime on a golden goal off of a penalty kick by forward Skylar Robledo that sent the Huskies to the CIF Southern Section Division 3 final.
Robledo, who has 22 goals this season, was fouled inside the box and given the opportunity to end the game. However, the junior missed the shot, as it went straight to the goal keeper. But Robledo got the rebound and scored for the 3-2 victory over No. 4 seed El Dorado.
“It’s tough to put into words,” South Hills coach Scott Mocabee said. “For this team, for the work they put in this year to compete for a CIF championship this weekend is really cool. I’m really proud of them.”

Sierra Vista comes up short: Grand Terrace High School girls soccer coach Ryan Pacheco had a halftime warning for his team.
“Our speech at halftime was ‘They will score,’” Pacheco said. “Plan on them scoring. Don’t get down on yourselves. They’re too good of a team to shut out.”The Titans held a 2-0 lead.Sure enough, in the second minute of the second half, Sierra Vista’s Maria Hernandez sprung with a through-pass up the middle and beat goalkeeper Jordan Wells to cut the Titans’ lead in half.
