Damien’s Isaiah Paige shuts down Etiwanda rally, Spartans hold on for 3-2 victory Posted on April 26, 2016 by Fred Robledo Damien gets another big Baseline win: Damien baseball coach Andy Nieto likes to call senior Isaiah Paige his secret weapon. He could be in the Spartans rotation and would be one of the area’s premier pitchers in that role. Instead he usually starts the game in center field and bats third in the lineup. Then, if Nieto needs someone to come in mid-game in a tight contest, Paige is usually that guy. Paige has excelled in that role quite well, coming in and shutting down an Etiwanda rally in a Baseline League game the Spartans won 3-2 on Monday. It was the first of three games the teams will play this week. Paige, who has signed with University of Michigan as a two-way player, entered the game in relief of starter Matt Amrhein in the fifth with two on and no outs and the Spartans (11-7, 8-1) clinging to that 3-2 lead.
