There were kind words and tribute’s all over social media after the passing of area baseball coach Frank Amaya, who is the grandfather of South Hills shortstop Jacob Amaya, and who has been an assistant to Andy Nieto while at Bishop Amat and Damien, as well as the many he impacted in youth leagues around the SGV. From what I hear, he was an old-school baseball coach who didn’t need to yell and scream to get his message across, and was respected for his knowledge of the game and how to teach it …
Frank Amaya was an Old School CLASS BASEBALL MAN and will be missed by many! Rest in peace Frank pic.twitter.com/JrPvr1xz2H

Sad to hear the news about coach Amaya, what a great friend and coach he was to me. The impact he had on me at Damien was unbelievable.

Can only imagine Coach Acosta and Coach Amaya bickering, making fun of each other, and joking around up there like they always used to do⚾️
