Walnut boys win first title in 24 years: It all came down to misfortune.
Walnut High School won its first CIF Southern Section boys swimming championship in 24 years because of a race disqualification by Gabrielino.
The Eagles won the 200 medley relay to open the Division 3 championship meet on Thursday evening at the Riverside City College’s Riverside Aquatics Complex. But the Eagles were disqualified for a swimmer leaving the blocks too early and Walnut won the race.
It was the difference in the meet. The Mustangs won by 10 points.
