Bishop Amat hangs on: Two weeks after Bishop Amat’s embarrassing loss to nationally ranked Mater Dei, and while Mater Dei continues to embarrass everyone else in its path, Bishop Amat showed for a second straight game it’s not all that bad, and probably better than anyone thought.
Bishop Amat raced to a three touchdown lead and surrendered it, but had the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter to beat JSerra, ranked sixth in CIF Southern Section Division 1, 35-28, and hand the Lions (2-1) their first loss.
If Bishop Amat’s 14-10 victory over Servite last week was a surprise after its season-opening 63-14 loss to Mater Dei, then Friday’s win over JSerra was further proof the young Lancers are a viable threat when the Mission League starts in a couple weeks.

Charter Oak routs Glendora: This was the third game of the season for Charter Oak and the third game it has scored over 40 points. The Chargers overwhelmed Glendora 43-0 at Citrus College on Friday.
It might be time to take them very seriously as one of the top teams in the San Gabriel Valley.Charter Oak (3-0) outplayed Glendora (1-2) on offense, defense and special teams. The Chargers had 522 yards of total offense, while thedefense held the Tartans to 52 total yards.

Damien keeps on rolling: It’s been a long time since Damien football has cracked relevancy in the San Gabriel Valley. The last time the Spartans made the playoffs was 2011, under then head coach Greg Gano.
Those days seem to be over.
Head coach Mark Paredes has the Spartans rolling through its first three games led by junior quarterback Warren Bryan who was impressive once again, completing 17 of 24 passes for 430 yards, four passing touchdowns, and a rushing score, as Damien cruised to a 38-7 victory of visiting Claremont on Friday.

Northview routs Santa Fe: Northview High School, after opening the season with a loss to CIF Southern Section Division 4 No. 1 Charter Oak, has been on a major roll.
The Vikings continued it Friday, steamrolling host Santa Fe, 44-6, in a nonleague game at Pioneer High School.
“Losing to Charter Oak definitely motivated us, but having (running back) Kevin (Thomas) back has changed our offense a lot,” junior quarterback Steven Comstock said.

Bonita beats unbeaten South Pasadena: The Bonita High School football might be starting to get the hang of this winning thing.
Youthful at several key spots, the Bearcats figured to experience some growing pains. And although Friday’s performance wasn’t perfect, it was good enough to result in a 49-28 win and hand host South Pasadena its first loss of the season.
