Undefeated Duarte no match for Whittier Christian: How good is Whittier Christian quarterback Quinn Commans?Very good, but so are the Heralds, who showed it at Duarte High School on Friday.
Commans, who equaled a CIF Southern Section single-game record with nine touchdown passes last week, accounted for 398 yards and four scores to lead Whittier Christian to a 55-20 victory over the host Falcons in a nonleague game.

Friday’s results
Mission League
Loyola 24, Bishop Amat 23 — With a sure victory tucked away, Lancers inexplicably blow a 23-14 lead in final 17 seconds, losing on last second 49-yard FG.
Mission Valley League
South El Monte 56, Gabrielino 14 — The dominance continues for the Eagles, who look like the read deal in Division 13. Bring on Arroyo.
El Monte 34, Mountain View 6 – Lions look like the third-best team in the MVL.
Arroyo 16, Rosemead 0 – The Knights didn’t miss their benched starters in last week’s win, but they did this week, gutting out tough win over the Panthers.
Non-League
Brethren Christian 69, Azusa 7 — Not a great scheduling job for Azusa, especially in a down year.
San Dimas 49, Diamond Bar 0 — Saints have have won a few titles, but don’t remember any season this dominant through four wins.
Bonita 39, Diamond Ranch 14 — Bonita most impossible team to figure out. No way I thought they could beat Diamond Ranch.
La Puente 19, Gladstone 10 — Perfectly matched teams with Warriors pulling out a close one.
West Covina 30, Glendora 13 — This was the truth game for both teams and while that hurts for Glendora, West Covina must be feeling like it can contend in the Hacienda.
Los Altos 35, Newport Harbor 23 — Going to seriously have to consider leaping the Conquerors to number one after tonight.
Damien 40, Monrovia 0 — That’s how you get the sting from a tough loss to Charter Oak out of your system.
Northview 35, Pomona 0 — Offense is rolling heading into next week’s Valle Vista opener with rival Covina.
Sierra Vista 34, Bassett 28 — Dons much better than anyone tough.
Charter Oak 35, South Hills 21 — Wholly molly, the Huskies actually led 21-14 in the second half. Would have been the biggest upset in a long time.
Whittier Christian 55, Duarte 20 — Undefeated Duarte exposed, but they’ll still be a contender in the Montview.
Workman 16, Bosco Tech 0 — These are the types of games the Lobos need to schedule more often.
South East 40, Baldwin Park 26 — Braves knew they were in tough against a solid team from the City Section
