Charter Oak’s Big Lou gets No. 300 — Charter Oak High School’s Lou Farrar has been one of the area’s top football coaches for more than three decades, and now he has a milestone to go with his first-rate reputation — 300 wins.
Matthew Takata threw for 409 yards and three touchdowns and Charter Oak got its legendary coach his magic number Friday with a 45-21 victory over host Chino in a Hacienda League game.

Isaiah Hamilton had three receptions for 193 yards and two touchdowns and Jermaine Braddock had four for 131 for the Chargers (7-0, 2-0). Willie Morris had 119 yards receiving and two touchdowns for the Cowboys (4-3, 1-1).

Third quarter dooms Bishop Amat: Bishop Amat’s hopes of back-to-back Mission League football titles ended with a 21-point outburst by visiting Serra in the third quarter that turned a defensive battle into an easy 28-12 Cavaliers victory Friday at Kiefer Stadium.
Bishop Amat’s offense struggled all night, but its defense played well enough to give it a 6-0 halftime lead behind Shazel Shakr’s 27- and 34-yard field goals.

Glendora hangs on for win: The Glendora football team knows that league titles aren’t won in mid-October.
But, after the Tartans thwarted a wild last-second rally to secure a 30-28 victory over South Hills on Friday night, they took the inside track in the race for the Palomares League championship.
South Hills quarterback Christian Martinez connected with Tahron Tolbert for an 11-yard score, pulling the Huskies to within 30-28 in the final seconds. South Hills then recovered an onside kick at midfield, setting up one final play.

West Covina outlasts Diamond Ranch: West Covina earned a tough road win with a 20-13 victory over Diamond Ranch on Friday in Hacienda League play.For a game this early in the league season, it had major implications.
Last year, the matchup between the teams was the difference between making the playoffs and not. Diamond Ranch was the third team to make the playoffs from the Hacienda League, with West Covina left out.

Northview 3, Rowland 0 — Maddie Arellanes had eight kills and Anne-Jolie Phung had five aces for the Vikings (16-6, 6-0) in a Valle Vista League match.
Duarte 3, Azusa 1 — Jocelyn Portillo had 12 kills and Lauryn Higginson, Macy Barnes and Ana Morales each had seven kills for the Falcons (15-11, 5-2) in a Montview League match Wednesday.

Garey 14, La Puente 4 — Thais Rodriguez swept in singles and the team of Sunita Bohara and Lisbet Flores swept in doubles for the Vikings (17-1, 13-0) in a Miramonte League match.

Bonita 3, Chaminade 1 — Michelle Boulware scored twice, Shannon Wong scored a goal and Ivy Leroux had two assists to lead the Bearcats (7-3-2, 4-2) to the Sunset North League win.

The Nogales High School football team needed someone to step up following its surprising loss to Azusa last week.
No one figured that player would be temporarily confined to a wheelchair.
Senior offensive and defensive lineman Joe Mantilla gave his team an inspiring talk at practice this week that sparked the Nobles to a big 56-6 win over Gladstone in Montview League action at Citrus College on Thursday night.

A High School Football coach in the midwest quits during the season, alleging that his own school’s administration forced him to meet with parents over their kids playing time…..

“I cannot be employed by a district that allows parents to dictate where their child should be playing on the football field, nor can I consent to a parent to allow their child to continue to play football after their son has undermined the football team and staff by failing at a coordinated attempt to organize a walk out.
“Members of a team have a responsibility to behave on and off the field in a way to contribute to the team’s effort to be as successful as it can. As a coach, that is my responsibility to uphold that obligation with support from administration. I do not have that support. The watch for win No. 300 is on for Charter Oak High School football coach Lou Farrar.
And yet the milestone is the furthest thing from Farrar’s mind when he heads out to the field every day.
“I don’t ever think about it unless somebody starts talking about it,” Farrar said. “It’s not for me, personally. I’ve had coaches on my staff for 25 years and it’s as much about them as it is me. It’s not a Lou Farrar thing, it’s a Charter Oak football thing.”Maybe so, but Big Lou is Charter Oak football. He’s the only head coach the school has ever had since it opened in 1985 as a merger between Royal Oak and Charter Oak. He’s a beacon of stability in an era of coaches who bounce around jobs like ping pong balls. He’s as much a part of the Valley as smog and traffic.
Farrar’s first try for win No. 300 comes Friday at Chino. The Chargers are in the midst of another fantastic season, despite a major injury to quarterback Bret Clemetson. Charter Oak is 6-0, ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 4, but the last two wins haven’t come easy. And Farrar warns that anyone planning a 300 party for Friday doesn’t know how good Chino is.

Glendora 3, South Hills 0 — Marissa Montoya had 12 kills and Alex Lowden had nine kills, 15 digs and five kills for the visiting Tartans (21-5, 7-0) in a 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 Palomares League victory Tuesday. Emma Svagdis had five kills for Glendora.

Boys water polo
San Dimas 12, Wilson 5 — Goalie Joe Doonan had 15 saves and Robbie Simpson and Seth O’Brien both scored four goals for the Saints (11-8, 4-0) in a Valle Vista League game. Jared Calderone scored three goals for San Dimas.

Girls golf
Bishop Amat 234, St. Paul 288 — Sharon Chen shot a 41, Diana Delgado shot a 43 and Veronica Trujillo shot a 44 to lead the Lancers (10-0, 5-0), who won the Camino Real League title at Whittier Narrows.

Wilson 18, Baldwin Park 0 — The team of Cherise Ching and Sarina Liang swept in doubles for the Wildcats (9-2) in a nonleague match Tuesday.
