STORY: The CIF-Southern Section football pairings were released Sunday and a lot of area teams had to sweat it out wondering if it made it because of the newly created divisions.
For the first time, teams from the same league aren’t necessarily in the same playoff divisions. Teams were placed in divisions over the summer based on how it performed over the last two years in the hope of creating more parity among all 13 divisions instead of using enrollment or geographic proximity, which were factors used in the past.
Well, the results are in most area teams are happy about earning invitations to the postseason.
Undefeated Los Altos (10-0), winners of the Hacienda League, will face a familiar opponent when it opens the first round on Friday.
As expected, Los Altos earned the top seed in Division 6 and will host San Marino (5-5), who won a divisional championship and advanced to a state title game last year, but has struggled this season after losing several starters from its dream squad.
