Amat earns big 4-1 victory on the road: Danielle Gonzalez made up for her missed chance.
The Bishop Amat High School freshman missed a penalty kick in the first half. But she scored the first two goals of the game to start the second half and the Lancers opened the Del Rey League girls soccer chase with a big 4-1 victory over host La Salle on Tuesday evening.“
During the PK I was going to shoot left,” she said. “I thought I was moving way too much and I psyched myself out before I shot it. After that, the team was telling me to not worry about and let it go. (Scoring) made up for everything.”Bishop Amat (13-3) went at La Salle goalkeeper Lauren Veneri 17 times in the first half. The senior stopped shot after shot with her feet and hands. Victoria Ochoa tried a high-footed shot that glanced off the hands of a La Salle defender, leading to the penalty kick. Gonzalez’ shot went right at Veneri.
“We made an error and all we had to do was fix it,” the senior goalkeeper said. “I got in the box and focused. I think I kind of read her hips. That’s all.“We played the best we could. We stayed together as a team. We’ll come back harder.”
Gonzalez took advantage of a centering pass from Sophie Serafin two minutes into the second half to score. She scored two minutes later when Nayeli Diaz’ pass was deflected and Gonzalez regrouped and put the ball in.
