SAVAGE SOPHIA: Bishop Amat’s Serafin drops six in an 8-1 win; Glendora, El Monte, Arroyo, San Dimas all lose

Bishop Amat’s Sophia Serafin put on a show during the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 girls soccer quarerfinals on Friday, scoring a season-high six goals with an assist in a 8-1 rout over visiting Chaminade.
Serafin, the Stanford-bound forward who missesd her sophomore and junior seasons because of injuries and commitments with U.S. national youth soccer teams, has made the most of her senior year.
The multi-goal effort by Serafin, who scored four of her goals in the first half, pushed her season goal-total to 39 as Amat advanced to host Claremont, a 1-0 overtime winner over Royal, in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Bishop Amat, winners of CIF-SS titles in 2011 and ’13, also received goals from Alexandra Jaquez and Nayeli Diaz to improve to 24-3.

Glendora’s best season ever ends: After a two-year hiatus, the South Torrance High School girls soccer team looks like it’s ready to get back into the CIF Southern Section championship business after a convincing 3-0 win over Glendora in the Division 3 quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at South High.
No. 2-seeded South (18-1-2) plays at Flintridge Prep in the semifinals on Tuesday.South led 2-0 at halftime and then dominated the possession game in the second half. The Spartans put the game out of reach in the 50th minute on a bang-bang-bang play by Holly Kaemerle.
Olympia Katsouridis lofted the ball into the Glendora 18-yard box and Kaemerle came in with the flying header. Her shot was saved, there was a rebound, Kaemerle pounced on it and shot and had it saved again. But there was another rebound, and again Kaemerle was there to pounce on it, and this time knocked it into the net, putting the game out of reach.

San Dimas falls in PKs: A penalty kick by Gabrielino in the 54th minute broke open a close game and the Eagles went on to beat San Dimas 8-3 in a CIF Southern Section Division 5 quarterfinal match on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles (16-3-2) will face Maranatha or Crean Lutheran next Tuesday in the semifinal round.
The Eagles were leading 4-3 when it appeared Ciannah Correa tripped over the legs of Saints keeper Riley Osuna, who had made a diving catch of the ball near the front of the penalty area.
The referee gave Osuna a yellow card and Izel Gutierrez put the PK into the corner of the goal for a 5-3 lead.
“That PK changed the everything,” Saints coach Josh Arenas said. “I was told that (Correa) had cleat marks (on her) and that was an automatic PK.”
