Walnut, Bishop Amat baseball win; South Hills falls in National Semifinals

Walnut outlasts Charter Oak: Baseball has a funny way of humbling you. Just ask the Charter Oak High School baseball team.
In their previous two games, the Chargers had outscored their opponents 11-0.When Walnut scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 9-4 Hacienda League win over the visiting Chargers on Friday, fans in attendance were more than surprised by the events of the inning.
Except for Walnut coach Paul Acosta.
“I anticipated our team scoring some runs early,” Acosta said. “One of our objectives was to make them trail. They hadn’t trailed a lot throughout the year, so we wanted to see how they played coming from behind.”

Bishop Amat fends off Serra: With two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh inning, the Serra High School baseball team looked poised for a comeback against Bishop Amat, but the Lancers held on to grab a 4-1 home victory and remained undefeated in Del Rey League play.Bishop Amat pitcher Isaac Esqueda struck out five in 7 2/3 innings, including two in the seventh, before being switched out for relief pitcher Nick DiFiori. Cavaliers players Jordan Brown and Ryan Castaneda stole second and third base respectively, prior to the switch. Esqueda also walked Jackson for the fourth time to fill the bases.

South Hills falls in USA Baseball National Semifinals: The South Hills High School baseball team came up one game short of reaching the title game of the National High School Invitational after losing to Orange Lutheran 5-3 in the semifinals at the National Training Center on Friday afternoon.
After defeating the USA Baseball, No. 1-ranked Archbishop McCarthy on Thursday, the Huskies fell victim to a four-run rally by Orange Lutheran and were never able to catch the Lancers.Orange Lutheran (11-1) will face Orange County neighbor Dana Hills (10-6) today in the championship game.
