St. Lucy’s Priory hadn’t advanced past the first round of the CIF Southern Section softball playoffs since 2012 when it went to the semifinals in Division 3.
The visiting Regents (17-6) scored early then held off a hard-charging Glendora team for 5-3 win in a Division 2 first-round game on Thursday afternoon.St. Lucy’s will host undefeated top-seeded Gahr on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
“We got those two runs (in the first inning) and that was fine,” Regents coach David Gaither said. “Then I thought they were going to score real quick when they got the bases loaded, but we stopped them in the first inning.”
