Matt Bechtel is turning the corner with South Hills football Posted on October 4, 2017 by Fred Robledo Believing in Bechtel: The rap on South Hills football coach Matt Bechtel is that he’s an offensive genius who rarely looks like he’s enjoying himself on the sidelines. It’s his serious demeanor and attention to detail than fans see, but inside, he’s a serious competitor that wants to return South Hills to its glory days, and is tedious the way he goes about it. But there might be a sneaky grin here and there because South Hills is 4-1 and ranked sixth in CIF-Southern Section Division 7, losing only to undefeated Charter Oak, ranked No. 1 in Division 3. And now the fun begins, because South Hills opens the Palomares League on Friday at defending champion Ayala (2-3) at 7 p.m.
